Lets Preserve the Lake

There was a time when there weren’t many hotels around Phewa Lake and still you could see a lot of tourist dying to stay there. The reflection of the Mt. Fistail on the crystal clear water of Phewa lake could win anyone’s heart. From the origin as a tourist destination, Phewa Lake has always been a brand that has helped to promote Pokhara in numerous ways. The boating on Phewa Lake and the barahi temple on the middle of the lake attracts thousands of visitors each year. The lake has been a cash machine for lots of people, NGOs and business houses, yet today it remains there so neglected.Today, when the lake is fighting a war for its existence and its lost beauty, the only the thing that we are able to do is watch and speed it to death. The lake is covered with the aquatic weeds and more than that the water is getting polluted day by day. Many NGOs and INGOs shows their interest on these issues but once that get bank for these issues, the issues just remain a issue.
Now, the time has come to make our selves aware about the conservation of the lake. Let’s stop blaming on each other and start conserving the lake. If you can’t do bigger things to conserve the lake, we could do small things like stop throwing rubbish, esp plastic products on the lake, stop using the lake for washing or dumping purposes and stop using the water of the lake for the daily use on the hotel and restaurants. Lets help her to gain the beauty that she has lost for decades.
About the Lake:Phewa lake is the second largest lake of Nepal and the largest lake of Pokhara Valley. IT is situated at an altitude of 784m at the western edge of Pokhara city near Baidam. It covers an area of about 4.43 sq km with an average depth of about 8.6m, maximum water depth is 19m. The maximum water capacity of the lake is estimated to be 46 million cubic meters. It lies in the valley of Harpan Khola which feeds the lake. On the southern mouth of the lake, at the crown of Pardi River, a dam is built which has nearly doubled the water level. The water of the lake is used for irrigation and electricity generation. The lake is surrounded by Sarangkot and Kaskikot hills on the northern side. The hill running along the lake is Raniban (Queen of Forests) which is very rich in flora and fauna. Mammals like Common leopard, Bengal fox and Barking deer are common in this forest. It is a home of abundant avifauna also.
The first main attraction is the pagoda style temple in the lake which is the shrine of Barahi (Water Goddess). The next main attraction is the mirror image of mount Machhapuchhre and Annapurna range on the crystal clear water of the lake. The south - eastern side of the lake offers the best view. THere is facility of canoeing and fishing.Phewa originally used to cover an area of 9 sq km but now has been reduced to 4.43 sq. km. Geologically the rocks of either side of Phewa are slate and quartzite and make anticline structure along the axis of the lake. The lake is the home of 17 species of native fish and 4 exotic species. The forest and lake is the habitat of 6 species of amphibians, 14 species of reptiles, 34 species of mammals and 104 species of birds. Out of 104 species of birds, 14 are migratory species. The lake is linked with pitched vehicle road and oating facility is available.

Pokhara International Airport

Japanese had made a feasibility study of International airport in Pokhara and had given a green light to it. The government had taken 3,106 ropani of land more than 32 years ago to build an international airport in Pokhara. After that every politician left no space to show the dream of International Airport in Pokhara for Pokharelis but this dream was never turned into a reality. They always took this issue as a mean to bring smiles in the citizens of Pokhara. Now after all these years the dream has found a way but still there is lots of doubt in its completion.
The main block of the international airport was dispute in the royalty fee of 58 ropani of land. Now the government has given royalty to these owners and the land is free from any dispute. The dispute could have been solved with a 15 lakh rupees in past which now took 15 crore rupees. This is a perfect example that our government never does right things on right time. Anyway now the government has opened the door for foreign investor by removing this hurdle. Tourism entrepreneurs and journalist believe that the main reason for the delay in the construction of International Airport in Pokhara is due to the conservative mentality of the people living in Kathmandu. According to them, people in Kathmandu fear that tourist will directly come to Pokhara in case of international airport in Pokhara, which will run down their business. The other reason is that they love to centralize everything within Katmandu so they have bribed the politicians to run policies and decision in their favor.
Now the public of Pokhara has become very aware of the benefits that the international airport will bring to their locality. So they have left no stone unturned to make their voices loud and clear demands for international airport in Pokhara. Let us see what future holds for Pokhara.

Pokhara Travel guide.

My Village

The town of Pokhara is not a tourist attraction in itself like Kathmandu. But if Kathmandu is the cultural hub of Nepal, Pokhara is its center of adventure. The setting of the city, in the middle of Pokhara valley on the banks of the Seti River, with all the big mountains nearby, makes it the perfect starting place for hikers and trekkers.
Pokhara is an enchanting city nested in a tranquil valley. The atmosphere on the shore of Phewa Lake is one of excited vitality as hipster backpackers crowd the many bars and restaurants exchanging recommends on the guesthouses and viewpoints, both the lake and above the clouds.
Pokhara is a place of remarkable natural beauty. The serenity of Phewa Lake and the magnificence of the fishtailed summit of Machhapuchhre (6,977 m) rising behind it create an ambience of peace and magic. At an elevation lower than Katmandu, it has a much more tropical feel to it, a fact well appreciated by the beautiful diversity of flowers, which prosper in its environs. Indeed, the valley surrounding Pokhara is home to thick forests, gushing rivers, emerald lakes, and of course, the world famous views of the Himalaya.
Finally, Pokhara is part of a once vibrant trade route extending between India and Tibet. To this day, mule trains can be seen camped on the out- skirts of the town, bringing goods to trade from remote regions of the Himalaya. This is land of the Magars and Gurungs, hardworking farmers and valorous warriors who have earned worldwide fame as Gurkha soldiers. The Thakalis, another important ethnic group here, are known for their entrepreneurship

History of pokhara city

Pokhara lies on an important old trading route between Tibet and India. In the 17th. century it was part of the influential Kingdom of Kaski which again was one of the Chaubise Rajaya (24 Kingdoms of Nepal) ruled by a branch of the Shah Dynasty. Many of the mountains around Pokhara still have medieval ruins from this time. In 1752 the King of Kaski invited Newars from Bhaktapur to Pokhara to promote trade. Their heritage can still be seen in the architecture along the streets in Bagar (Old Pokhara). Hindus, again, brought their culture and customs from Kathmandu and settled in the whole Pokhara valley. In 1786 Prithvi Narayan Shah added Pokhara into his kingdom. It had by then become an important trading place on the routes from Kathmandu to Jumla and from India to Tibet.
From 1959 to 1962 some 300,000 refugees came to Nepal from neighbouring Tibet, which had been annexed by China. Four refugee camps were established in the Pokhara valley: Tashipalkhel, Tashiling, Paljorling and Jambling. These camps have evolved into settlements. Because of their different architecture, prayer flags, gompas and chorten, these can easily be distinguished from the other settlements.
Until the end of the 1960s the town could only be reached by foot and it was considered even more a mystical place than Kathmandu. The first road was finished in 1968 after which tourism set in and the city grew rapidly. The area along the Phewa Lake developed into one of the major tourism hubs of Nepal.

Don’t Blow The Planet

I remember those good old days, when the air was clean to breathe, water was clear to drink and the land was full of fresh green vegetation to have healthy food. However a lot of environmental problems now affect the entire world.

I remember those good old days, when the air was clean to breathe, water was clear to drink and the land was full of fresh green vegetation to have healthy food. However a lot of environmental problems now affect the entire world. I am even unable to breath due to this pollute air.
Today to drink some fresh water, it has to be purified using several methods. We can find fresh green vegetables no more. According to me, of the various kinds of problems faced by our planet, the depletion of non-renewable natural resources is the major concern.

The increased demands of Aluminium nowadays claim more energy and mineral resources. However, based on my experiences, every problem will have its causes, effects and most importantly a solution. In the case of depletion of natural resources, the unique solution is to “Recycle.” The usage of recycled metal saves both energy and mineral resources needed for primary production.

The well known fact about aluminium is that anything made of Aluminium could be recycled for ‘n’ number of times and can be reused. Moreover the atomic structure of the same never changes, no matter the number of times it has been recycled. Moreover, recycling one kilogram of aluminium can save up to 8 kilograms of bauxite, four kilograms of chemical products and 14 kilowatt hours of electricity. It is the good news regarding the increased usage of Aluminium. The only thing is, we have use recycled Aluminium .

Aluminium scrap is collected and recycled everywhere in the World. Recycling of Aluminium plays a key role in Europe, North America and Japan.

By the year 2020, the metal demand is projected to shoot up to 70 million tonnes. The challenge for the metal Industry is to satisfy the ever increasing demand for Aluminium, at the same time reducing any negative impacts to the environment. Recycling of Aluminium is the best way to meet the emerging Industrial needs and to eliminate environmental risks and conserve energy. Also, recycling aluminum creates 97% less water pollution than producing new metal from ore.
We will never know the worth of water until the well is dry. It is high time to act to stop the depletion of non-renewable natural resources and conserve non-renewable energy sources. So recycle and reuse whatever it is possible to do so and save the grinning Planet.

“Good Planets are hard to find, don’t blow it”-Quoted in time.
